Taxonomía Las gencianas constituyen en total unas 300 especies, propias de las tierras bajas de los países árticos y de las cumbres de las zonas templadas del hemisferio boreal. Generalmente son plantas herbáceas, glabras, anuales o perennes, de hojas opuestas y enteras; flores pentámeras, amarillas purpúreas o azules; fruto en cápsula de abertura bivalvar.
